# 4–Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Originally developed under the auspices of King Charles II of England, these lovely little dogs have been delighting families since the 17th Century. Gentle and quiet, Cavaliers have a very attractive long coat that comes in a range of colors. They are patient with children, but because of their rather delicate build, will not stand up well under rough play; children should understand how to handle these little dogs to prevent harming the dog by accident. These small spaniels–they only weigh between 12 and 18 pounds–are very affectionate and are happiest when interacting with their family.
