Persin is an ingredient in the leaves, meat, seeds and bark of avocado that is toxic to dogs. You should make sure if you have an avocado tree that you don’t let your dog find them on the ground. The leaves actually contain the most persin. Also make sure your dog stays out of the trash that might contain shells, pits and parts of the fruit. There is debate over the topic of avocados and their effect on pets. It is absolutely advised not to feed your dog avocados because although different types of avocados contain slightly different amounts of person, just because your dog didn’t react once doesn’t mean it won’t the next time. Even if someone tells you their dog eats guacamole all the time and tries to convince you you’re being overprotective, do not give in and let your dog have any.
Make sure your dog can not get into the trash because not only is moldy food dangerous for them, they could get into animal remains with bones that could choke them and aluminum foil can be fatal if consumed as well. There are many other things that can be poisonous to your dog like chicken bones, sugar, peaches, plums, raw eggs, raw fish, raw meat and salt. It’s important that you don’t feed your dog from the table and keep medicines and foods out of reach. Remember just because it’s healthy for humans doesn’t mean it’s not going to kill your dog.
